Happened in 2020. Lady got slapped with a $27,500 fine.

Edit: For those who are saying "never going to see it," remember, this is a FAA fine. The government can and will take every goddamned penny it will.

Put these morons onto a nationwide no-fly list. Flying is already stressful for many, they don’t need idiots like these people on planes.

They should be on an international permanent no fly list.

128

u/CPThatemylife 5d ago

I hope so. I love the thought of people who behave like this being permanently banned from all flights. Never getting to fly ever again and having to figure out an alternate method of travel any time they want to go anywhere. Then they can think about what they've done every time they have to make a 3 day trip across the country. And good luck getting to Hawaii or any other place that's only feasibly accessible by plane. Such a satisfying thought.

It’s insane that carriers don’t share no-fly lists, I have a buddy whose grandparents shoved a flight attendant and they could no longer fly Air Canada, so they would fly other carriers and still behave like subhumans.

You’re gonna need to sell a lot of parsley to get $27,500.

104

u/BitPoet 5d ago

That shit bolts and self-seeds so fast it's insane.

Give it water and about 2 years and your entire yard is parsley.

Mix in some cilantro to provide competition.

Sell it as free-range organic artesian parsley for like $6 a bunch, and you're off to the races.

58

u/ArtisticAd7455 5d ago

There's a lady near me who grows all sorts of stuff in her yard. She also tells everyone she poops in her yard to fertilize it. I don't buy her goods.

It's called jail. If you don't pay restitution on a criminal case you got to JAIL. They don't garnish your wages. They resentence you and put you in jail or on a more restrictive form of state supervision. And guess what you still have to pay. And when you refuse to pay again... Straight to jail. Right away.

177

u/OccamsSchickQuattro 5d ago

This right here… the whole oh I couldn’t pay the settlement is only a whoopsie in civil cases. In criminal cases I can’t pay the settlement has a whole other meaning and consequences.

30

u/dozkaynak 5d ago

She was issued a civil fine by the FAA

43

u/OccamsSchickQuattro 5d ago

And the FAA is allowed to make criminal recommendations to the DOJ based on unpaid fines where applicable.

Do we all agree touching a flight attended would constitute a crime in this manner?

Okay so if she doesn’t pay the penalty she goes from being blocked by one airline to being blocked by all and facing criminal battery charges at the bare minimum.

So do you never leave jail since you can't get a job?

67

u/4APIM81APITM20 5d ago

You make the state a certain amount of money per count while incarcerated. There are three counts per day. A percentage of the money the state receives from housing you gets rolled into your "account". The balance of that ''account" goes towards paying your restitution, canteen and wages of services performed like working in the kitchen or laundry. And there is also work release programs where the state basically provides you the ability to maintain your current job while staying at the jail overnight.

80

u/kaigoman 5d ago

Anyone know why it’s just a civil fine? Why not a criminal prosecution?

55

u/_BindersFullOfWomen_ 5d ago

Multiple factors: prosecutor may not wanted to have pressed the case, flight attendant could have said she didn’t want to testify, etc.

No real way to know unless you have the case file.

That’s a good way to get kicked off a plane and put on a federal watch list.

5.1k

u/JaSper-percabeth 5d ago

I fail to understand how people can't grasp the concept behind something as simple as wearing the seatbelts on an aeroplane seems like they just want to make trouble.

2.5k

u/Confident_Economy_85 5d ago

Because many individuals have this “I’m a grown ass man/woman and can’t nobody tell me what to do”. Then, after being asked to do something, then directed to do some thing will end up with being made to do something. Either way, they will fail to understand that the person working that position that just told them what to do, just wants to complete their job and go home safely.

1.0k

u/GoodVibesWow 5d ago

Because they have no self awareness. No empathy for anyone. They simply don’t want to be told what to do because it makes them feel weak and “disrespected.” Do they stop to think that it also makes them look very foolish? That it makes them look like a delinquent? No they don’t. For some percentage of the population they just don’t think about consequences of anything.

They’ll end up banned from the airline. Possibly put on a no fly list. Very likely charged with aggravated assault. Because….”please put in your seatbelt.” Really dumb.

330

u/creamygarlicdip 5d ago

What's with the obsession with being "distrespected"?

473

u/freethinker- 5d ago

Worthless people generally don't have anything of real value other than perceived respect

218

u/Quelcris_Falconer13 5d ago

Working retail taught me this was true. They get a bit of power over someone in a common every day situation like being served by a flight attendant or waitress at a restaurant and then they go abuse it and do everything that they can think to be as obnoxious and push every limit and button they can find

47

u/papergirl_312 5d ago

This is so accurate.

21

u/Franco7x77 5d ago

As an ex-waiter, working my way through college, I can tell you this is 100% true. You can stop at that table and ask, is there anything at all I can get you? And the answer is no, until you step away and talk to another table then you would get interrupted with individual request for things having you running back and forth to the kitchen all night, just to get stiffed on a tip.

I think it's of the same category as people who are obsessed with being a victim with every little thing they do.

But its usually not the kind of attention they are expecting because normal people see through the bullshit.

People like this don't care what others think and it's obvious in the video. I don't know why the woman got enraged about the seat belt. It was her bf or husband that was told to put the seat belt on.

215

u/ParsonsTheGreat 5d ago

The problem with people like this is that they simultaneously dont care what people think and care what people think. They are walking contradictions and will have miserable lives because of it. She doesnt care what people think of her reaction, but her reaction was because of her feeling like she was being treated disrespectfully, just because another adult had the audacity to ask her to do something rational. She is probably a miserable person

103

u/v27v 5d ago

They 100% care what people think, it's all about the perception that they won't be disrespected and they are willing to posture and throw down on anyone who does anything they perceive as doing such. There's a ton of reasons as to why they can't make rational decisions and understand proper social norms, but that's a very different discussion, and quite frankly I don't know how we fix it.

64

u/Timelymanner 5d ago

You can’t fix it because it’s a form of narcissism. I wouldn’t be surprised is she still blames the flight attendant for her poor decision making and self control. Trying to gaslight everyone into thinking she had to defend herself. People like this have to want to approve, and that’s rare.

Vegas casino Bartender here. So. Even if a customer comes up to the bar and asks for a cup of water, I ask to see ID. Kinda have to. Part of the job. Even if youre 50, you still have to have a physical i.d. on you to be on the casino floor or at a bar.

A lady a few days ago decided to throw a temper tantrum and embarass the group she was with because even though she just wanted water, me asking to see ID and even saying "surveillance has us check everyone and I just gotta make sure you have it on ya" was a line too far.

90% of the time, it's just people doing what theyre supposed to for their paycheck. Internally, we dont really fucking care and probably dont even want to be there ourselves.

But hey. People that act like this in public. Go ahead and keep "keepin it real". It never goes wrong.

51

u/BSB8728 5d ago

I was once in line at the supermarket behind a guy who handed the cashier a $50 bill. She took out a marker of some kind that they use to make sure a bill isn't counterfeit, and the guy went ballistic, saying she was accusing him of being a thief. It's the store policy! He made a big scene and held up everybody else in line because he wanted to be a victim.

Go to the gate assigned

Wait for the gate to open

Line up to board

Sit at her assigned seat

And she complained about a damn seat belt that could save her life?

I mean in general I don’t like people telling me what to do, but there are circumstances where even as an adult you just have to shut up and do what you are asked. An airplane is one of those. 100 other people just want to get where they are going, they have no time for this bullshit. You want to be an asshole, fine, you get to ride the bus.

186

u/Jjp143209 5d ago edited 5d ago

u/NomadicDevMason 5d ago

So the no fly list isn't federally enforced thing but the airlines have a very expansive partner list and they share their no fly list data with each other so chances are your not getting on a plane anymore unless there is some small airline that happens to go to the city you want to got to.

Yeah assault of any airline worker results in a permanent membership to the No Fly List.

55

u/ValkyrieKarma 5d ago

Yup. Do you think the flight attendant who was assaulted sued?

People always say this, but the federal no-fly list is separate from an airline no-fly list. She just has to choose a different airline for now on.

u/PilotBurner44 5d ago

I'm thinking Spirit is more her brand.

u/probably_your_wife 5d ago

They probably are used to flying Spirit and not having seat belts at all.

Not too many places to drive when you're broke and probably in jail for failing to pay your $30k fine.

Yeah, this happens. I worked with one of the majors for 10+. What people don't realize is that an Airplane is the domain of the feds. So, they will jack you up something serious with insane fines, jail, the whole 9. AND you can't fly anymore with any real carrier. Your life is very much altered after an episode like this.

84

u/Dammit_Meg 5d ago

I've heard they often only get banned from that airline. Can you share any insight on this, confirm or deny that piece of information?

120

u/elderassassin2580 5d ago

Not just the airline, but basically any federally controlled airport, which is basically every large airport. It’s called the no-fly list.

u/Afraid_of_Okapi 5d ago

I’m a passenger of whatever airline goes where I’m going for the cheapest, and so are the people who do this. You’re either a humble, meager peasant such as myself who is doing it out of pure need to hoard food money, or a person looking to get banned from each airline in order of expense from least to most.

What’s with these people on planes, I see the same thing again and again.

Have they never been on an aeroplane before?

What leads people to thinking this is a way you can behave?

63

u/fairlyhappy88 5d ago

I’d guess their family members treated each other this way.

17

u/kaithana 5d ago

That’s usually my thought for when I see people driving like gigantic assholes. “Oh, you must have learned this from your parents and everyone in your social circle reinforced that behavior. It’s still wrong.”

24

u/breakupbydefault 5d ago

Have they never been on an aeroplane before?

There are probably more people who have never been on a plane than we think. Like those homebodies who have never even left their own state because they see no reason to

Why the hell do people act like this on planes and still think they are going to fly. I don’t know why they act like this period. It’s stupid. Now they are going to jail, miss the flight, be put on a no fly list and be sued by the airlines for the cost of time wasted because that plane is now on a permanent delay which costs them money. All because people have to act petty and childish. People like this are just low class and stupid.

I’m curious as to the complete thought process by the passengers…assault of a flight attendant is a felony and they can both face 20 years in prison, no fly list on all airlines, no reimbursement of funds, the list goes on…all over seatbelts, which is a pretty standard request to wear those on a plane.

Assaulting a flight attendant should be an automatic lifetime ban on all airlines. No exceptions.

10

u/Historical_Date_1314 5d ago

I hope all airline bans her for at least 10 years after seeing this.
