jokes on you all he was completely immune to werewolf bites

997

u/Either-Plant4525 5d ago

not immune, the werewolf would just die too

283

u/praktiskai_2 5d ago edited 5d ago

and not necessarily that either. Not unless the man's blood and tissues in great quantity entered the creature's system, who if harmed instantly from this contact, would simply stop eating and spit out whatever entered them. That's why silver bullets are preferred, since most werewolves can't spit out those.

150

u/CrimsonArcanum 5d ago

The "most" part of that part is worrying.

73

u/praktiskai_2 5d ago

they're either very rare, or werewolves who use their bodies as omnidirectional machineguns while being immune to projectiles, don't leave enough witnesses for accurate statistics.

68

u/MrBlizter 5d ago

43

Lmao Sindri said he turned blue from forging without gloves but apparently he also enjoyed drinking it

640

u/I_Baja_I 5d ago

Spoilers in god of war ragnarok tho, he infact did not turn blue cause of this. He was gas lighted.

408

u/HistoricalMud9080 5d ago

Oh I totally missed that! Does that suggest that his skin was normal until he lost part of his soul ?

171

u/Blockinite 5d ago

Yeah, Dwarves turn blue when they die. The only other blue dwarves we see are dead. That's why all of the other dwarves were so freaked out by him when Sindri brought him back, he basically looked like a zombie

44

u/tuibiel 4d ago

How the hell did Brok not put two and two together before the mermaid fiasco, then?

32

u/Blockinite 4d ago

Honestly not sure. A few ideas:

Sindri told him the accident involved silver and turned him blue

Sindri used his confused state to convince him he'd been turning blue for a while because of the silver

7

Both are possible as both seems logical but anything is possible in reel life though.

As far as I can remember, Brok is never said to have become blue after Sindri did you-know-what. Also because, in many concept art, it is seen that other dwarves and partly also Lunda have blue skin due to exposure to metals.

81

u/CatsyVonCat 5d ago

”Using it, Sindri was able to revive Brok but was so traumatized by the event he decided to never tell Brok about it as he didn't want to burden his brother with the guilt. Brok woke up, his skin now blue”

26

u/nu173 5d ago

so brok just spontaniously turned blue and didnt question it?

44

u/CatsyVonCat 5d ago

Idk that’s what the wiki says. I remember them saying something in the game about how the other dwarves knew he was dead or something and that’s why they didn’t accept them back but Brok accepted the story that Sindri told, the one about silver or some shit.

48

u/AFresh1984 5d ago

Brok loved his brother. He knew he was full of shit but still played along with Sindri's story.

Getting cancer doesn't require you to smoke. It just increases your chances of getting a cancer.

71

u/Top_Initiative_2699 5d ago

I had a teacher in 7th grade who died of lung cancer. She never smoked in her life, was very fit and appeared to have good genetics, it was very sudden too.

35

u/newluna 5d ago

You can also get kidney cancer (among others) from smoking, without getting lung cancer.

32

u/AnnihilationOrchid 5d ago

Smoking can fuck you up in so many ways other than just lunge cancer. You'll definitely rot your lungs, if you're smoking a few packs a day, but even a few ciggs a day over a few decades is enough to compromise your body.

My late friend smoked about half a pack a day, he lived till he was 97, but he was really lucky. Another because of his smoking started getting higher blood pressure problems, which developed a series of heart problems, he was in his late 30's. He started smoking when he was 13.

16

u/Telefundo 5d ago

many ways other than just lunge cancer.

I worked with a guy who wound up with oral cancer. I can't think of a better incentive for someone to stop smoking than to work with someone in that situation for a few months.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Tools4toys 4d ago

Smoking causing lung cancer is just one aspect of the impact to a persons body. As you point out from your friend, the bigger effect is that of cardiac issues. My mother smoked for 40+ years of her life, and suffered from COPD and had 10 cardiac stents. She quit cold turkey one day, and amazingly lived for 30 more years to the age of 95. Even though she lived to 95, the affects still impacted her daily life.

7

u/AnnihilationOrchid 4d ago

That's amazing.

I used to smoke, even though I did cardio, I would feel weak, and was losing my breath, that's bad oxygenation of blood, and started having pressure issues. I stopped, in about a month I was back to normal, but I was pointed out by a doctor, when I starting high blood pressure I should quit immediately, and indefinitely.

I still have one whenever I'm drinking with friends, but it's pretty rare. I just find it disgusting most of the time.

First of all, Papa Smurf didn't create Smurfette. Gargamel did. She was sent in as Gargamel's evil spy with the intention of destroying the Smurf village. But the overwhelming goodness of the Smurf way of life transformed her. And as for the whole gang-bang scenario - It just couldn't happen. Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have reproductive organs under those little white pants. That's what's so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. What's the point of living... if you don't have a dick?

Man with blue skin dies at 62: Unlikely his condition was responsible

From the CDC website: Once you have argyria it is permanent. However, the condition is thought to be only a "cosmetic" problem. Most doctors and scientists believe that the discoloration of the skin seen in argyria is the most serious health effect of silver.

The Wiki page on Paul Karason lists a bunch of health issues he had, including sinus problems, dermatitis, acid reflux, prostate cancer, heart attack, pneumonia, and stroke.

Those first three predate his use of silver, because those are the problems he was taking it for, and apparently he claimed that this treatment was successful. (Doubtful, obviously.) But I'm not finding any sources that would connect argyria or silver use to the other problems. There's a line on the Wiki page for argyria mentioning that excessive use of silver eye drops might be harmful to your eyes, and some vague stuff from Mayo clinic and a couple other sources saying that extremely high doses might, in rare cases, cause liver or kidney damage or neurological issues like seizures. But those aren't really the same problems Karason had, and those same sources all reiterate that little research has been done on the topic and skin discoloration is the most serious known side effect.

It looks to me like /u/Pinksamuraiiiii is right here. I mean, when a heavy smoker dies at 62, it's usually mainly the smoking.

121

u/Zron 5d ago edited 4d ago

Here’s the problem with consuming metals like silver regularly.

They’re heavy metals.

Your body is meant to handle only a few metals, like magnesium, phosphorus, and iron. And it handles those in very small amounts.

Drinking large amounts of metals over years is going to cause them to build up in your body, because your kidneys and liver did not evolve to dispose of silver. They don’t know what to do with it.

The reason data is so sparse, is because only crazy people do this shit, and they’re unlikely to participate in studies. It’s also very unethical to do a large scale study, as the health effects are completely unknown.

Don’t drink silver. It’s almost certainly terrible for your body

Edit: misremembered my chemistry, phosphorus is not a metal.

When I was younger I had over 25 warts on my right hand alone. My mom wanted to get them burned off, but the dermatologists said my small hamd would be a huge scar. She did some research and she had me drink some colloidal silver water we made everyday for a month and all my warts went away. I havent had one since. My dad actually drank colloidal silver as well (but he would wait until the water turned black sometimes) and it turned him grey. People thought he wasn't getting enough oxygen for a long time, but he stopped drinking colloidal silver and it took about 10-15 years for it to go away, but he's still a little grey.

Lost his home to a battle with prostate cancer

If that sentence doesn’t make a good case for universal healthcare I don’t know what does

182

u/TonyWrocks 5d ago

American healthcare would have us believe their mission in life is to provide healthcare, but it's not.

The mission is to generate cash.

And that mission is not compatible with an inelastic marketplace like healthcare without massive government regulation.

As a tiny first step, it's time to remove the age requirement for Medicare.

It’s a well known side effect of drinking colloidal silver in excess. Doctors have known about argyria since the mid-1800s. Personally, I think it would be the ultimate form of extreme petty revenge—adulterating someone’s beverages with colloidal silver in order to permanently smurfify them.

8 years later that dress is still white and gold with a blue hue from the light outside.

“The study, which involved 1,400 respondents, found that 57 per cent saw the dress as blue and black, 30 per cent saw it as white and gold, 11 per cent saw it as blue and brown, and two per cent reported it as "other".[45] Women and older people disproportionately saw the dress as white and gold.”

Whelp - I’m both.

Adding to make myself feel better:

“A study carried out by Schlaffke et al. reported that individuals who saw the dress as white and gold showed increased activity in the frontal and parietal regions of the brain. These areas are thought to be critical in high cognition activities such as top-down modulation in visual perception.”

Edit: how do we not just load it in any graphics editing program and look at the hex code?

I showed it to my mom and she also sees it as gold and white lol

I can kinda see a bit of blue in the white parts, but it still predominantly gold and white to me

I saw it as gold and white on the way down that wiki page and then went back up to the top and now it’s blue and black. Am I a superhuman?

Why?

142

u/ConditionOfMan 5d ago

The reason he started drinking it was kinda wholesome. He had a friend with petroleum poisoning and apparently a treatment for that is colloidal silver. So he bought a colloidal silver generator and produced the stuff for his friend. To be kind and show that he thought it was ok to, he drank it himself as well. The thing is, he just never stopped.

Sorry for Dr Oz, but he had an interview with Oz and Oprah

The evangelical Christian radio station in my town had infomercials selling this stuff as “sea silver” and pretending it was an essential nutrient.

Hippies think silver water is some natural medicine for insert anything. They make it and sell it to eachother even though it’s illegal and not on shelves for good reason. Much like how flouride in our city water is bad for you/mind control. Despite the hard evidence that it is a good thing. I always love the story of how we figured out flouride was good for us in small doses. Colonizers with bad teeth found tribes with amazing teeth and figured out it was because their natural water source had flouride in it.

Lived in a lot of hippy towns. Always amazed at the dumb shit they all trick eachother into. Ear candles are another good one.

u/boo_boo_kitty_fuckk 5d ago

Probably shouldn't be drinking it..

But it is widely available for wound care. Even hospitals for wound "packing"

It is antimicrobial...

At least the silver thing makes sense on a surface level. Silver is naturally anti microbial. So you can see how someone without evidence might think ingesting it would keep baddies out of your body. Then you think about it for 2 more seconds and realize stuff like bleach and ammonia are also anti microbial, so yeah.

I knew a hippie dude that would put it in a humidifier and inhale the fumes to coat his lungs. My bet would be the silver wasn’t even atomizing and he was just inhaling mostly water vapor.

I worked with a guy who was blue (rare genetics). I always wanted to ask him about it, but I was senior management to him and it never felt appropriate. It was so unusual.

10

u/soggytoothpic 5d ago

Was his last name Fugate?

6

u/mamapajamas 5d ago

Right, I just read The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, which is a fictional account of a blue woman with these genetics! I looked it up to see if it was a real thing and learned about the Fugates. This guys picture always comes up even though it’s blue for a totally different reason.

okay so his skin turned blue, but what i want to know is what colour were his possessions, nay, his world?
Blue his house

With a blue little window

And a blue corvette

And everything is blue for him

And himself and everybody around

Cause he ain't got nobody to listen to

I can't believe some of these comments. This man willfully kept ignoring Drs advice and kept actively poisoning himself. His family tried to help him but he did not accept anyone's help including theirs so divorce it was. When folks ask "who are the folks taking horse paste and shitting themselves into the hospital because they don't want "poison" (scientificly developed vaccines) in their bodies...it's this guy. It's fucking sad. He was mentally ill and loved the clout of being blue rather than actually helping his health.

One of the crazier roommates I ever had used to drink this shit and try to get me onto it as well. I asked her what it was for and her answer was basically, 'lots of people take it; it's well know that it's good for you.'

On a side note, the rise of highly-transmissible infections like COVID have been linked to the reduction of the amount of actual copper used in doorknobs, faucets, etc.

18

u/boo_boo_kitty_fuckk 5d ago edited 5d ago

Because copper is also antimicrobial, and spermicide (hence copper IUDs)

11

u/ralpekz 5d ago

he was actually applying it to his skin too which is what actually caused his skin to turn, per his doc oz interview. consumption was only turning his insides blue
